Tree measuring 2 to 5 metres, with pubescent young branches.

The leaves are opposite, perennial, whole, 5 to 10 centimetres long, oval-oblong, leathery, short-acuminate, sometimes obtuse, green in colour and with a canaliculate petiole.

The flowers are arranged in erect clusters that appear between June and September. They are white in colour and aromatic. The corolla is tubular, with the tube longer than the 4 lobes. They have 2 stamens and an ovary divided into 2 parts.

The fruit is an elongated drupe, black in colour.
