Deciduous tree with opposite, simple, palmatilobed leaves, dark green on the upper side and paler on the underside. The limbs measure between 7 and 16 centimetres and are slightly wider than they are long, with serrated edges. The petioles are long and red or yellowish pink in colour.

The flowers appear in hanging inflorescences, they are hermaphrodites or unisexual, with two yellow casings (petals and sepals). The male flowers have eight curved stamens, while the female flowers have two nectaries.

The fruit are disamara with wings measuring some 3 centimetres forming an angle of approximately 90º.
