Tree measuring up to 35 metres in height, with a reddish bark that sheds in sheets.
The leaves are tetragonal, 1 to 1.5 centimetres long, dark green in colour. A characteristic of many species in the genus is that when the leaf is removed, a small branchlet rib comes off with it.
The ripe cones are pendulous, reddish brown in colour, 10 to 18 centimetres long.
