Bimillennial Eagle
(Year 1975-1993)

- Creator: Santiago de Santiago Hernández
- Technique: Bronze casting

In 1975, on the occasion of the bimillennial of the founding of the city, a monument was built in Praza de Santo Domingo made up of a classical column in the Corinthian style with and Imperial Eagle. The original sketch showed the wings spread out, but out of fear that the winds would blow it down, it was made with the wings folded. The criticism that arose led to it being replaced with another based on the original design.

In 1993, the eagle sculpture was installed on the ‘Costas do Parque’ Park Hills, taking advantage of the expansion. It is made up of 10 natural granite blocks from the Fraguas estate, in Parga. The eagle is placed at the top, creating a wild scene, betting the bird’s habitat.
